Pundits: YOU go to the back of the bus.

Wow, a few of us have noticed the corporate owned media try to downplay the anger across the country on the Prorogue of Parliament. This Facebook group has them all gulping loudly.
It’s an old strategy, one employed often.
Denigrate, try to make people think they are being SILLY!
Downplay the importance of the anger, and any effect it may have.
Try to make people feel as though they are unimportant.
Or: “First they ignore you, then they ridicule you, then they fight you, then you win.” – Mahatma Gandhi
Really galling since this here circus is being paid for by…..The same angry people that also have a vote.
Media message: Sit down at the back of the bus and Shut up.
We know what is best for you!
The answer? No.
The media also forgets who pays them through purchasing their birdcage liners and sitting through the endless commercials that sell them more stuff they do not need….And they also forget who they are supposed to represent.
Let’s have a little looksee…..Shall we?
freedom of thought, belief, opinion and expression, including freedom of the press and other media of communication;
Now I suppose that could also mean they are “free” to support the government of the day, but I highly doubt that that is what the writers of the Charter intended. I really do think they put that in there so that the media felt free to make sure we are an informed citizenry. Call me Pollyanna, but I think I am on the right track with this one.
The Traditional Corporate media certainly do feel free to support the Government come election time and during every scandal the Harpercons have embroiled themselves in….
The “Unbiased” media seems to endorse whatever party they think will maybe win. Check this link out. Really. Unbiased media?
Now, if you clicked that link like I asked you too, you will perhaps notice something else. Media consolidation.
media in Canada are primarily owned by a small number of companies, including CTVglobemedia, Canwest, Rogers, Shaw, Astral, Newcap and Quebecor. Each of these companies holds a diverse mix of television, cable television, radio, newspaper, magazine and/or internet operations. Some smaller media companies also exist. In 2007, CTVglobemedia, Astral Media, Quebecor, Canwest Global and Rogers all expanded significantly, through the acquisitions of CHUM Limited, Standard Broadcasting, Osprey Media, Alliance Atlantis and Citytv, respectively.
So a very small group of very powerful people, control the entire sha-bang pretty much. And this whole facebook thing? It is bad for business. Very bad.
REALLY bad.
So, if you read something by the pundit/editorialist in your “local” paper? Do take it with a grain of salt. Or the whole shaker.
This is not tin foil hat stuff folks. This is all 100% verifiable fact.
If your future, and the future of your country are important to you? Go back to the front of the bus, you paid for the ticket.

I think the biggest problem is that the majority of those 100,000+ people think that our government officials are going on holiday for this time. Just because parliament is not sitting does not mean they are not working.
I have seen media discussing this, that seems like responsible journalism to me….Get the facts out to the people, right?
Don’t get me wrong, I am not for the proroguing of our parliament. It makes no sense to throw away all the work that is sitting partially done….this is just stupid. That should be the basis of outrage, not that Gary Goodyear is taking a month off….unless he is, but my understanding is that MP’s will be working within their constituencies as this is also a big part of their job description http://www.parl.gc.ca/information/about/process/house/RTC2006/Web_Site_RTC/Rtc2006_02-e.html#1
Mike
Well done, Pale.
In their year end interviews with Harper, Mansbridge/CBC allowed Harper to blow him off about the contempt for parliament displayed by proroguing and CanWest/Akin/Ivison didn’t even ask one question about it.
Currently we appear to be relying on the UK mag The Economist for decent coverage.
Thanks Alison….
And it is glaring to see how they want to deny that there is something to see here…
Mansbridge asked a few good questions, but he sooo didn’t stick with it.
If this one goes unchecked, the path becomes more dark and dangerous.
I think that it is also the precedent Mike…What next time? Don’t want to think about it….
Well Mike. I agree with Allison and Pale. You don’t like the messagers, take a hike and BTW go to the back of the Bus and Check mate buddy.
I am not disagreeing with anyone here…why are you condemning me? I am in no chess match so there will be no mating.
Yes the media needs to be able to ask questions of the government, regardless of how they are funded (CBC). If they don’t then they are as usless as an MP in Ottawa this February.
Here is the news story I was speaking about in my previous comment http://www.570news.com/news/local/article/14396–proroguing-parliament-part-of-canadian-tradition
Again getting fact and opinion form “experts” is good journalism in my eyes. I would have liked to see some local MP’s quoted as to how they plan on spending this break in parliament to give some actual meat to the story.
Let’s not forget that it is the media that is partially to blame in the low turnout at the polls and apathy towards our politics. Set aside the fact that some people figure why would they vote as all the “leading partys” suck and look at the every other day polling that is done during election time. Our society would rather vote for the winner than vote for a change.
“Why vote for the green party, they won’t win?”
“I am not going to throw my vote away, the NDP is so far down in the polls I might as well stay home.”
Let’s keep the out of the decisions and let people vote on the issues. Present the facts and topics, with an editorial opinion, and let people use their brain to decide.
The nation is depressed, economically, and burnt out emotionally from this gov. The divisiveness is over the top. If we can’t be united in what is good for the ‘people’, then we’re truly f”d. Stop repeating endlessly the partisanship, it works to Harpo’s advantage. Our society would no more rather vote for the winner than jump into -32 lake. That’s precisely what this agitation is about. There are no facts, we’re in a yellow submarine right now. There isn’t enuf ‘real’.
Kumbaya or acid trip submarines ain’t going to do it.
Looking at the spin and being able to label it would be of far bigger help.
What is really interesting about your comment, is that this was not a partisan post. It is a post about media control of the message and that should expect less partisanship from the “unbiased” media………
Ah well.
