Stop the Prorogue Rally Planned for January 23rd

A march and rally to protest the recent decision by Prime Minister Harper to prorogue Parliament until March is being planned for Parry Sound on Saturday, January 23rd at 3:30 P.M. The rally will begin at the Public Library and end outside the office of MP Tony Clement.

“After hearing the comments of Mr. Clement recently on CBC where he suggested that “ordinary” Canadians didn’t care if Parliament was in session, I felt compelled to do something to show that he was mistaken,” commented one of the organizers, local resident Glen Hodgson.

The rally will feature some guest speakers and a procession from the library to the office of Mr. Clement. The event is non-partisan and anyone who is concerned about the decision to prorogue the legislature is invited to attend.

“I feel strongly that all Canadians, regardless of your political affiliation, should be upset by this decision. Democracy is important and with so many important issues currently before the government, their decision not to even show up to discuss matters at hand is troubling.”

The organizers hope to attract a large crowd to send a message to MP Clement that the constituents in this riding want to see the MPs go back to work. Similar events are being held across the country on the same day and a Facebook group dedicated to protesting the decision has attracted thousands of supporters.
