    Dear All:

Thanks for all this great work, everyone. According to Library of Parliament info. service, the Speaker of the House of Commons (Mr. Peter Milliken (Lib, Kingston & Islands), email: MilliP@parl.gc.ca), is responsible for opening the Parliament Building and the House of Commons chamber to MPs. Please communicate with him, and MPs, asking them to open the House chamber and meet there on the 25th. Is anyone planning to actually be on The Hill on the 25th to observe that MPs who choose to enter the House will actually be able to do so? Anything like that?

Thanks to all those working hard to keep this site going and current. I’ll be there with my hubby and son for the protest. Need to wait for payday before I can donate to this since Haiti just took what I had spare. Still, big thanks for those working diligently towards this cause. I think last night the facebook group hit over 190k. Woot!!!

  5. 5 Cindy Crackintoes said at 12:44 am on January 16th, 2010:

Here’s the letter I sent to Mr Milliken, Speaker of the House.

Please take a minute to scribble something and e-mail your MPs.

    Good morning,

I have been very busy over the last couple of weeks discussing with my fellow Canadians about the recent choice of our Prime Minister to abuse his discretionary powers. We are outraged at this assault on Canadian politics and it’s current and future implications.

I understand that, as Speaker of the House, it is your duty to open the House of Commons. I respectfully request than you be on Parliament Hill on January 25, 2010 to perform this duty in order to grant access to those MPs that decide to honour their positions as representatives of the people.

I look forward to being there on January 25th to take note of which MPs are upholding the standards Canadians expect of an effective government.

Thanking you in advance for your attention to this matter,
    Cindy

I’m newly enlightened (thank you Mr Harper) so I hope I haven’t buggered anything up.

See you on the hill next Saturday.

We are still looking for entertainers to take part in the Ottawa rally on Jan 23 at 1:00.

We have a professional company providing sound facilities.

If you would like to help entertain all those who will be attending the rally contact charlie.ottawa@noprorogue.ca.

    See you at the rally

  8. 8 Marie-Pierre said at 7:29 pm on January 19th, 2010:

Firstly, I’d like to agree on the fact that this is a great initiative.

Secondly, I wanted to point out that to have the support of the French speaking population, if it has not been taken into account, I strongly suggest to have French speaking speakers on Saturday.

I will probably see ya’ll there!

  9. 9 Thor Tuncsik said at 10:20 pm on January 20th, 2010:

I really doubt any politician in Canada truly gives a hoot about democracy other than to gain some sort of political advantage of power.
(I have no ties to any political party as I consider them all lacking in any semblance of democracy, and in my opinion are only legalized petty thieves).
    God Save the Queen

  10. 10 Alex McDonald said at 1:16 pm on January 21st, 2010:

Just as Canadians have mobilized in the past to prevent participation in the Iraq War, to stop wage controls and to bring about health care, they are now mobilizing for a better tomorrow. This is heartening. A good defense helps the offense. It will be easier to win battles that better our way of life when we win battles that attack our way of life.

  11. 11 Frank said at 6:15 pm on January 21st, 2010:

    @Dr. Michael Pilon:

The posters are a lovely idea. I’d point out that Parliament is spelled “Parlement” in French. Une traduction complète va mieux nous aider dans nos efforts. I have some of my own as well.

  12. 12 Brad M said at 7:07 pm on January 21st, 2010:

There is talk that Michael Ignatieff, Paul Dewar and Elizabeth May will address the protest in Ottawa.

I want to attend this protest, but I feel this is a grass roots movement and the politicians are only going to increase the partisanship that is already too evident on Parliament Hill. That partisanship is part of the problem, not the solution.

  13. 13 jrski said at 9:05 pm on January 21st, 2010:

I hope it rains Saturday and prorogues the silly rally!

  14. 14 Jesse said at 1:06 am on January 22nd, 2010:

Looks like -1 and sunny. sounds like great weather for a rally!
    Sorry JRSKI!

  15. 15 Robert Cook said at 1:52 am on January 22nd, 2010:

Anyone planning on carrying a flag to the Parliament Hill rally, RCMP Parliament Hill Detachment says your flagpole cannot be 1 inch in diameter or greater. They are always worried about poles being used as weapons. Three quarter or half inch diameter poles should be ok.

  16. 16 Robert Cook said at 2:08 am on January 22nd, 2010:

It probably goes without saying, but there are people who would obviously like to discredit the rally on the Hill as consisting of violent extremists and kooks. Beware of anyone trying to incite violence or hijack the media coverage with their extremist views. Stay peacible, and focused on our common purpose…maintaining the traditional supremacy of parliament in exacting accountability from the government. Our credibility is at stake.

  17. 17 Real Canada said at 8:34 am on January 22nd, 2010:

I will attend the Ottawa protest just to see the fools being led down Canada’s path of destruction by Ignatieff.
I’ve warned people of this loser for 4 years, and I’ve been right all along.
Wake up Canadians. Watch CPAC if you want to understand what’s really going on in politics and turn off the CBC broadcasts that are valued as much as CNN crapola media hype.
    I watch the Senate Committee!
    I watch question Period!
    I watch all the time…

The political agenda for Liberals is not to improve this country, but rather fight tooth and nail to get back into office after 13 years of dragging the country down to record lows.
Political Media Spin attempts keep nipping them in the butt, hopefully the next bite will bring them down.

This protest is just a big gathering of ignorance, so I hope Iggie makes it, he is the leader of the biggest pack of ignorant’s (no typo) and well suited for the event.

  18. 18 Sharon Howarth said at 12:14 pm on January 22nd, 2010:

For the Toronto Rally, there was a discussion about allowing any politicians to speak and the result was an overwhelming “no”. This is a rally by the people and, in order to avoid any media spin, having our event highjacked by any political party and labelled as a political rally, it was deemed to be the wisest. Have I heard correctly that Michael Ignatieff is going to speak at the Ottawa rally? If yes, there needs to be re-thinking.

  22. 22 Dr Mike Pilon said at 5:33 pm on January 25th, 2010:

I am still totally impressed at the great work done by this group. Interstingly some of the press dismissed it as a radical lefites, old commies ( Lowell Green calle me that then slammed me off the air :) )
Today several patients I am a dentist) were there, one is in the foreign service and has been overseas, another a PhD n hs area of concern. His wife was lived about Harper. Really an amazing cross section of Canadians
This is only my second rally ever..:) All this makes the whole event mre meaningful and important to politics.

Another senior civil servant told me Harer is known to cut off budgets in areas where he gets feed back that “Doesn;t make him look good” Morale is so low…

And hey it was fun to get the opportunity to speak Saturday, and you have no idea how neat it was to tell a joke and have 3500 people laugh Man best audience I ever had was 30 people suaully follwoed by a visit to the Principals..they used t give the strap when I was a kid. I got it from gades one through 9 till they banned it, In a perverse way i was sorry as I had a streak going :)

Again, well done Canada will be in great hands

    Check out my site
http://www.drmichaelpilon.com I will be utting up the rally photos , I need to get a program back i lost last week :)

  23. 23 Kevan Bowkett said at 7:39 pm on January 26th, 2010:

Thanks to all the MPs who showed up at the doors of the House of Commons yesterday, Monday, Jan. 25, and who intend to continue with the work of some of the commissions Mr. Harper hoped to shut down by proroguing. Well done, all! And I appreciate some of the ideas afloat to limit the PM’s power to prorogue. Meanwhile, dear Parliamentarians of the Bloc, why not show some measured Quebec patriotism? — and of the Conservative Party, why not show some intelligent conservatism and feeling for democracy? — and show up in Ottawa this week to do what you were elected to do?
